Pavel Dostál

Pavel Dostal ( born February 25, 1943 in Olomouc, Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia; † July 24, 2005 in Brno ) was a Czech politician and from 1998 until his death in culture minister of the country.

Life

Dostal was from 1957 to 1961 as a chemist in Ústí nad Labem formed. He was from 1962 to 1969 member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. In the time of the restoration of the communist system after the Prague Spring ( normalization ) worked as a laborer, he wrote a variety of pieces (including with Miroslav Horníček ). In June 1990 he was artistic director of the Music Theatre of Olomouc. Since 1991 he was a member of the Czech Social Democratic Party and was elected for this in 1992 in the National Assembly.

After the dissolution of the CSFR Dostal worked for several years at the Moravian Theatre Olomouc and was also commentator for the newspaper Pravo. Since 1998 he was Minister of Culture, as the successor of the actor Martin Stropnický.

Dostal died after a long year of cancer in Brno hospital.
