Pavel Kantorek

Pavel Kantorek ( born February 8, 1930 in Prague ) is a former Czechoslovakian distance runner who specialized in the marathon.

In 1956 he became Czechoslovak marathon champion and fourth in the Kosice Marathon. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne, he finished eleventh in the 10,000 m and marathon came in the 27th place. The following year, he came fourth in the marathon at the International Youth Games and the Asahi Marathon. In 1958 he won the marathon in the International Military games, was the overall winner in Košice national champion and again fourth in the Asahi Marathon.

In 1959 he won the Enschede Marathon, was the second fastest time of the year of 2:19:06 h national champion, came in Košice on the seventh and the Asahi Marathon to second place. In 1960, ranked 14 in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Rome in a third place at Asahi Marathon. In 1961 he was runner-up in each Enschede and Košice ( where he also was national champion ) and triumphed in the Asahi Marathon. In 1962 he defended his national championship, finished fifth in the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade won in Košice and was fifth at the Asahi Marathon is, with his personal best of 2:18:58 in the following season, he finished third in Enschede.

In 1964, he was fifth at the Polytechnic Marathon and the overall winner in Košice national champion, but came in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Tokyo only to the 25th place.

In 1966 he was eighth in the marathon in the European Championships in Budapest, and in 1967 he became the seventh and last time Czechoslovak Marathon champion.
