Pavel Kuznetsov (weightlifter)

Pavel Viktorovich Kuznetsov (Russian Павел Викторович Кузнецов; * July 10, 1961 in Strunino, Russia) is a former Soviet weightlifter.

Sporting career

Kuznetsov fell in 1983 internationally, when he won the world championship in Moscow in the class up to 100 kg. He scored with 422.5 kg, consisting of 182.5 kg in the snatch and 240.0 kg in pushing the same power as his compatriot Alexander Popov, who brought but more body weight on the scale. 1985 submitted his duel performance of 407.5 kg at the World Championships in Södertälje only for second place behind Hungary Andor Szanyi, who scored 415.0 kg.

During the World Cup 1987 Kuznetsov was able to increase its performance again on 422.5 kg, which was enough for the world title before Nicu Vlad with 420.0 kg. Also at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul he could its competitors Vlad clearly distance and won with 425.0 kg gold medal with a distance of 22.5 kg on the runner-up. A year later, the World Cup in Athens fell on Kuznetsov's performance from 400.0 kg and he achieved third place behind Vlad and Stefanov.
