Pavel Lednyov

Pawel Serafimovitch Lednjow (Russian Павел Серафимович Леднёв, born March 23, 1943 in Gorky, † November 23, 2010 in Moscow) was a Soviet Modern pentathlete.

With a total of seven medals at four Summer Olympics and four individual and two team world titles, he is one of the most successful modern fighters of the five sports history.

At his first Olympic participation at the Games in 1968 in Mexico City, he won a silver medal with the Soviet team and a bronze medal in the individual competition. Four years later, at the Games in Munich in 1972 he has been with the team and Olympic champion in the individual competition of third parties. At the Games in Montreal in 1976, he won the silver medal in the individual competition. Before a home crowd at the Games in Moscow in 1980, he won his fourth individual medal with the team for the second time the team competition and a third place in the individual competition.

In the years 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1978 was Pawel Lednjow individual world champion and 1977 runner-up. In World Team Championships, he finished with the Soviet team in 1973 and 1974 the first place, 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1977, second place and third place in 1975 and 1978.
