Pavel Viskovatov

Pavel Alexandrovich Wiskowatow (Russian Павел Александрович Висковатов, scientific transliteration Pavel Aleksandrovich Viskovatov, in Germany Paul von Wiskowatow, born 24 Novemberjul / 6 December 1842greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † 16 Apriljul / 29 April 1905greg ibid. . ) was a Russian literary historian and librettist.

The son of the military historian Alexander Vasilyevich Wiskowatow studied in St. Petersburg, Bonn and Leipzig. From 1873 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Dorpat, from 1874 to 1895 as a professor of Russian literature.

Together with Apollon Maikov he wrote the libretto for Anton Grigoryevich Rubinstein's opera The Demon.
