Pavement management

The term Pavement Management System ( PMS short ) describes a database that is used for the systematic recording of all necessary for road maintenance information of a road network. To this end, in the locality detected state characteristics ( data) are transmitted and evaluated in a computerized system. By the assumed / calculated development of the road condition to road maintenance measures or renewal measures can be selected, while financial needs assessment. Taking into account the selected or taken for a fixed period Consideration is also the investment value of the existing road pavement. The aim of this system is to optimize road maintenance under macro-, business and technical aspects and provide a decision aid for further action.

Pavement management systems are applied in Germany since 1999 and come there for the entertainment of federal, state and county roads used. The community engagement, although currently not yet widely used, but it is sought by many municipalities as part of the introduction of double-entry bookkeeping system.
