Pavlodar Province

The Pavlodar region (in Russian Павлодарская область / Pawlodarskaja oblast; kazakh Павлодар облысы / Pavlodar oblysy. ) Is an administrative unit in the northeast of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the border with Russia's western Siberia. The area of the territory is 125,000 square kilometers ( comparison: five new federal states together approximately 108,000 square kilometers), population amounts to just 750,000 inhabitants ( early 2013 ).

Geography

Steppe is the dominant landform. The Irtysh water-rich, coming from the Altai, is the lifeline of the district. He also feeds the Irtysh - Karaganda Canal, which passes water through the steppe to the south.

Economy

The Pavlodar region has rich natural resource deposits that form the basis for a territorial production complex Pavlodar Ekibastus with pronounced large-scale industry.

In recent years, the agricultural area is greatly reduced. Until the collapse of the Soviet Union agriculture but played a very large role in the district.

History

From 1932 to 1938, the Irtysh Pavlodar plane around still part of the territory of East Kazakhstan, whose headquarters was Semipalatinsk. The Pavlodar region was re-formed on January 15, 1938 decision of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and confirmed by the Kazakh government reform of 1997.

Cities

The district capital is Pavlodar ( population 495 554 /2009). Other major cities in the district are Ekibastus ( 132,800 inhabitants / 2003) and Aqsu ( 47,200 inhabitants / 2003).
