Pawe Special Woreda

The Paweł - Spezialworeda is one of the 21 woredas in the Benishangul Gumuz region within Ethiopia. Along the Mao - Komo Spezialworeda it is the only Spezialworeda the region. It was created in 1994 to defuse the conflicts between settlers and the Gumuz.

Location

It is not in any management zone of Benishangul Gumuz and therefore has not the status of a normal Woreda. In the south and west Pawel is limited by the Metekel zone and to the north and east by the Amhara region.

Population

According to the Central Statistics from 2005, the population of the Woreda is estimated at about 50,000. The area is 567.51 km ², giving a population density of just 88 persons in km ². The main towns of Pawel are Almu, Felege Selam and Ketema.
