Paweł Adamowicz

Paweł Adamowicz Bogdan ( born November 2, 1965 in Gdańsk) is the mayor of the Polish city of Gdansk and a politician of the Civic Platform ( Platforma Obywatelska ).

He studied law at the University of Gdańsk ( he graduated in 1989 ) and became known as the co-organizer of the 1988 strike at the university and leader of the strike committee. After finishing his studies he worked as a research assistant at the University of Gdańsk and 1990-1993 Vice President for Student Affairs.

In 1990 he was elected to the city council of Gdańsk and retained his seat until his election as mayor in 1998. November 10, 2002, he was re-elected with 72 % in the second ballot. 2006 and 2010 he won in the first round of voting.

He was given by John Paul II Pro - Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal and by then President Aleksander Kwasniewski, the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
