Paweł Szymański

Paweł Szymański ( born March 28, 1954 in Warsaw) is a Polish composer.

Life

Szymański studied until 1978 at the Warsaw Academy of Music composition with Wlodzimierz Kotonski. He continued his education at Tadeusz Baird and 1984-85 at Roman hood -Ramati in Vienna. In 1976 he participated in the International Summer Academy of Ancient Music in Innsbruck in part, in 1978, 1980 and 1982 at the Darmstadt Summer Courses. He worked from 1979 to 1981 with the Experimental Studio of the Polish Radio, 1982-84 with the Independent Studio for Electroacoustic Music and in 1983 with the Electronic Music Studio of the Academy of Music in Krakow together. As a participant of the German Academic Exchange Service 1987-89 he was an employee of the Electronic Studio of the Technical University of Berlin.

1979 won Szymański with the Gloria for women's choir and instrumental ensemble first prize in the competition for young composers of the Polish Composers Union. For Lux Aeterna 1984 he received an award for sacred music of the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart. With the Partita III for harpsichord and orchestra, he won the Benjamin Britten Composing Competition in Aldeburgh 1988. 1993 he received the annual prize, the Polish Composers Union, in Folgajahr the Grand Prize of the Cultural Foundation. In 1995 he received the grand prize for In Paradisum in the Composition Competition of the International Foundation Of Polish Music.

From 1982 to 1987 Szymański taught at the Faculty of composition, music theory and conducting the Warsaw Academy of Music. He was a board member and vice president of the Polish Composers' Union and member of the Program Committee of the Warsaw Autumn festival (1987 and 1989-99 ). Krzysztof Knittel, Stanisław Józef Krupowicz and Patkowski he founded in 1997, the Foundation Friends of the Warsaw Autumn Festival.
