Pax Britannica

The Pax Britannica was a principle of the world and colonial rule in the 19th century.

The idea was to govern in accordance with the Pax Romana of ancient Rome, the world, or at least the British Empire with the help of the ideas and concepts of the Elizabethan age, the Christian religion and a developing -do ethics of free trade in a peaceful world after English law.

The leadership should take the advanced society of Great Britain. Cultures and nations that this rule did not like bending over, had to reckon with the application of institutional, economic and, where appropriate military force.

First approaches to the Pax Britannica evolved from the Elizabethan period, as compared to Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, the Royal Navy and the British colonial possessions in the world is constantly growing. Prerequisite of its establishment was the economic advantage of the United Kingdom at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the loss of French power after the Napoleonic Wars, the control of major sea routes and naval bases and the full command of the sea.

This growth in size according to the Protestant ethic seemed suitable as evidence and justification that this way of the world corresponds to the divine will.
