Pazin

Pazin (Italian: Pisino; German: Mitterburg ) is a small town with 4,386 inhabitants in Croatia. It is located in the County of Istria. The community Pazin, which also includes numerous surrounding towns, has 8,638 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). Due to its central location and its historical importance as the capital of the old county of Istria Mark Pazin is located in the regional parliament of the county.

History

Pazin, whose landmark is the old Mitterburg was first mentioned in 983 as a castrum Pisinium. In the 12th century the place to the center of an independent feudal first by the counts of Schwarzburg and then by the Counts of Gorizia was. 1374 came Pazin in the possession of the Hapsburgs. From 1805 to 1814, the city was under Napoleonic rule and was about first part of the Kingdom of Italy; in 1809 it belonged to the Illyrian Provinces. After 1815, Pazin was again part of the Habsburg Monarchy and the venue of the Istrian Parliament. After the First World War Pisino came in 1918 with Italy. 1945, the city and the Yugoslav republic of Croatia was slammed. Since 1991, Pazin is part of the independent Croatia.

After the Second World War, the castle was converted into a museum. Other attractions include the Dating back to the 13th century Abbey of St.. Nikolai, the Franciscan monastery was built there in the 15th century, the town hall and the Karst river Pazinčica, who disappears under the castle, which belonged to the Counts of Montecuculi in a sip hole.

The French writer Jules Verne was the abyss of Pazin as inspiration for his novel Mathias Sandorf.

Located below the town of Pazin cave ( = sip hole of Pazin stream ) was first explored in 1896. It shows very clearly the geological changes in Istria.
