PC Games (magazine)

The PC Games (short PCG ) is a German PC Computer Games magazine, which is published by Computec Media from Fürth. PC Games published monthly, usually on the last Wednesday of the previous month, and has about 150 pages per issue, depending mainly on the number currently appearing games.

History

With the regular edition 10/1992 beginning in October 1992 appeared the first time a PC game magazine, which regularly came with a 3.5 "disk with demo versions.

From Issue 1/ 1995 PC Games first appeared with a cover CD, from issue 5/ 1998, going as a double CD. From issue 11/2000 was also placed outside of the subscription to a DVD as a storage medium. With issue 7/2003 it was replaced by a double-sided DVD.

Since mid-2004, let the games videos on the DVD, not only as individual videos look, but also as an editorially processed compilation in reportage style called PC Games Reporter. This upcoming games are presented on the basis of trailers, clips and game developer interviews. In addition, regular current events of the computer game scene (eg exhibitions or E ³ Games Convention ) is reported.

Since the founding of the magazine, readers letters corner ( Rossi limbo ) gains in popularity. Since the first edition answers Rainer Rosshirt ( previously at the magazine Amiga Games and also in the Playtime active ) in the chatty tone of the questions readers who do not always revolve around computer games, or the magazine.

Editorial line

Editors were at the beginning (since the first issue in October 1992 to March 1998) and Thomas Oliver Menne Borovskis. From April 1998 to February 2000 led Thomas Borovskis the magazine. From March 2000 to June 2001 was the chief editor of Florian Stangl and Petra Fröhlich (born Barren wall ). Stangl was replaced as of July 2001 by Christian Müller. Since March 2004, Petra Fröhlich sole editor in chief of PC Games.

• PC Games Premium (Includes PC Games Extended from 16 with several additional gimmicks to a focal point, which usually refers to an actual game, published quarterly, for the first time as issue 11 /2006)
• PC Games MMORE (Busy exclusively with the online role-playing game World of Warcraft )

Magazine

The main categories of the print edition of PC Games are:

• News from the PC computer game scene.
• Previews on PC computer games, which are still in development.
• PC Games Sneak Peek, which invites the reader to the office to test a 's upcoming game itself and can make suggestions for improvements to the developer.
• Tests current PC computer games ( recently published or shortly before the release of standing).
• Articles on current PC hardware components with respect to computer games (such as video cards, joysticks and computer mice).
• Tips, Cheats, mod descriptions and solutions (in the sense of a computer game, for example, a step-by- step guide ( walkthrough ) to play through an actual computer game).
• Buying a with the 100 best rated games organized by genre.
• A magazine section with letters to the editor, columns and a " 10 years ago " retro side.

Issue DVD

Rating system

For the gaming tests a specially developed scoring system will be used. Since the February 2006 issue, an average of gameplay value is calculated from a motivation curve. The motivation curve is a scale from 1 ( Terrible ) to 10 ( outstanding ). From game tester / editor (eg level or missions) will be awarded game points while playing for individual game sections. The average of these points will be rounded to whole numbers between 0 and 100, and gives the overall score.

PC Games assigns various awards ( Awards) for a particular game quality:

• PC Games Award ( for games from a game score of 85 points )
• PC Games Editors' Choice ( for games that can be recommended without reservation by the editors - " completely independent of rating, price or age " )

Previously PC Games forgave other awards:

• PC Games Gold Award ( for games from a game score of 90 points )
• PC Games Silver Award ( for games from a game score of 85 points )
• Technology Award ( for technically groundbreaking products that were regarded as the benchmark for new publications)
• Sound Award ( for games that have offered an exceptional sound experience ) - Sound Award was sponsored by Creative and wore their logo.

The highest ever ratings reached Strike Commander ( issue 7/ 1993), Wing Commander 3 ( issue 2/ 1995) and Half-Life 2 (12/ 2004) with 96 points.

Podcast

Since 10 July 2009, the PC games editorial sends every Monday a podcast is in the discussion of current games themes. On ITunes, it is available free of charge.

Circulation Statistic

In the fourth quarter of 2013 the average monthly circulation was widespread IVW at 49 339 copies. These are 22.16 percent ( 14,045 books ) less than in the same quarter last year. The number of subscribers increased within one year by 0.32 percent to 20,600 subscribers. Currently, 41.75 percent of readers relate the magazine subscription.
