Peace & Love (festival)

Peace & Love is a cultural festival that takes place annually in June / July in the Swedish city of Borlänge and over 20,000 visitors each year. Peace and Love sees itself as characterized by a positive message and reflection and has a annual theme. Here, the contents refer to the About topics diversity, community, and understanding. With over 40 000 tickets sold Peace & Love 2009 was the largest Swedish Festival. 2013, where Depeche Mode should appear as headliners, the festival does not take place, because too few tickets were sold and the organizer has filed for bankruptcy.

History

In 1999, the first festival was organized by the Association Peace & Love. In the following years, the festival grew to visitors and musicians. Since 2006 theme days with debates, workshops, lectures and seminars are organized before the music festival. 2007 was the Peace & Love with 25,000 visitors per day, the second largest festival in Sweden.

Message

Peace & Loves basic message is about diversity, community, and understanding. Therefore, Peace & Love will appeal to all who want together to create a more peaceful and more loving world. The message is highlighted by an annual theme. Since 2006 theme days will be organized before the actual festival.

Peace & Love worked together to explain environmental issues with Greenpeace

This theme days stood out and 2006 was the subject really stand out in focus. There were 3 days with debates, workshops, lectures and seminars. Contributors as Folke Rydén, Mian Lodalen, Izzy Young, America Vera - Zavala, all political youth organizations in Sweden, as well as many different people and organizations set the standard high for years to come topics and their theme days.

Among the speakers was the British artist, writer and musician Malcolm McLaren, the former Minister of Culture Leif Pagrotsky, the journalist Göran Greider, author of Marcus and the author Birro Mian Lodalen.

Peace & Love Santiago de Chile

In 2008, the concept of Peace & Love has been exported to South America, where in Santiago de Chile, a festival of the same name took place. It occurred Swedish and Chilean artists. The festival is held annually in Chile.

Development of the festival

The first festival in 1999 was held in the pub in the center of Borlänge Bolanche. A year later, the festival moved to Cozmoz, a local youth disco, and was partially even in the Folkets Park (City Park ) laid. In 2001, the festival got its new look, pulled in Borlänge center and had about 3000 visitors. The following year, the number of visitors even rose to about 3 500 The following year, the festival had a big boom and was attended by approximately 8000 people. In the years 2004 - 2005 the number of visitors rose to about 10 000 visitors a day. The event continued to grow - 2006 15 000 tickets were sold on the day - and is now one of the biggest festivals in Sweden. 23 May 2008 Peace & Love ended the sale of 25 000 festival passes in record time and experienced a rush of visitors, whom they had never seen before. It sold more camping passes and extended the camping facilities due to the many visitors who would come.

Bands

Several bands are regulars at Peace & Love. So, for example, are the Borlänger bands Mando Diao and Sugarplum Fairy every year since 2001 there occurred.
