Peace Party (Turkey)

The Barış Partisi ( Turkish for peace party, abbreviation BP) was a Turkish political party, which was close to the Alevi- Shia community in Turkey. She is, after the Unity Party of Turkey (Türkiye Birlik Partisi ) from 1966 to 1981, the second party of this type in the Turkish political history.

The peace party was founded on 10 December 1996 by members of the Republican People's Party ( CHP). The former managing director and CHP deputy Ali Haydar Veziroglu became Secretary General.

After the defeat in the parliamentary elections in Turkey in 1999 with 78 922 or 0.25 % of the votes, and zero seats in Parliament, the party's congress decided the dissolution of the party on the 9th of May the same year.
