Peacock Sound

Geographical location

The Peacock sound is a completely icy strait ( sound ) in the Southern Ocean between the Antarctic mainland and the Thurston Island.

The 216 km long and up to 64 kilometers wide in front of the West Antarctic Sund region Ellsworthland is not navigable. In the midst of the strait is the Sherman Island.

The sound was not until 1960 when an Antarctic expedition discovered when at the entire coastline of the Thurston Island, which had still held up to that point for a peninsula explored.
