Pedra da Gávea

Pedra da Gávea, Rio de Janeiro

Pedra da Gávea is a 842 m high rock in the Floresta da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro and is located in Barra da Tijuca. It consists mainly of gneiss and granite. It is the largest single block of granite near the sea and more than twice as high as the far more famous Sugarloaf Mountain with 396 m. Clearly visible in part is the rock from the beach of Ipanema.
