The peaks of Pedraforca

The Pedraforca with its two peaks, one of the most prominent mountains in Catalonia (Spain). The two mountain peaks, Pollegó Superior ( 2,497 meters) and el Calderer ( 2,491 meters) outshine all the peaks of interest. The Catalan naming derives from the shape of the mountain: pedra ( stone ') and forca (, fork ').

Geography

The Pedraforca is in the Pre- Pyrenees, south of the Serra del Cadi Cadi in the Nature Park - Moxeró. The massif is located in the northeast of the Comarca Berguedá, on the municipal boundary of the places Saldes and Gósol.

Geology

Before approximately 50 to 100 million years by the collision of the African and Eurasian plate, the fold mountains of the Pyrenees and Pre- Pyrenees and the thus the Pedraforca arose. Erosion over millions of years the mountain was given its present form.

Nature Park

As a special part of the Natural Park Cadi - Moxeró 1982 by the Catalan Parliament of the Natural Park Paratge Natural d' interests Nacional del Massís del Pedraforca was reported.
