Pedro Guevara

Pedro Guevara ( born February 23, 1879 in Santa Cruz, † January 19, 1937 in Manila ) was a Filipino politician. Between 1923 and 1936 he represented the Philippines as a delegate ( Resident Commissioner ) in the House of Representatives of the United States.

Career

Pedro Guevara visited the Ateneo de Manila and graduated in 1896, the School San Juan de Letran in Manila. He took part in the war against Spain and was involved in the negotiation of the peace treaty in 1897. Then he took as lieutenant colonel of the Philippine armed forces at the Spanish-American War of 1898 in part. Later he worked as a lawyer. In 1907, he acted as advisor to the town of San Felipe Neri. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. Politically, he was a member of the Nacionalista Party. Between 1909 and 1912 he sat in the House of Representatives and from 1916 to 1922 he was a member of the local senate. In 1921, he headed the Philippine delegation to a law conference in Beijing.

1922 Guevara was of the Philippine Legislature as a non-voting delegate for three years in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jaime C. de Veyra on March 4, 1923. After four elections he could remain until February 14, 1936 in Congress. On this day he was replaced by Quintin B. Paredes, who had been elected for a reform of the government in his home in this office. Guevara was involved in the preparation of this reform. He died on January 19, 1937 in Manila, where he was also buried.
