Pedro Morenés

Pedro Morenes y Álvarez de Eulate ( born September 17, 1948 in Las Arenas Getxo ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular.

Life and career

Morenes studied law at the University of Navarra. From 1974, he worked as an entrepreneur in the shipping industry. In the 1980s, he worked in a law firm, at the beginning of the 1990s for a consortium of shipyards.

From 1996 to 2000 he was State Secretary at the Spanish Ministry of Defence, then to August 2002, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Interior then up to the 2004 elections.

Between 2004 and 2011 he went into business activities according to the shipping industry.

On 21 December 2011, he was appointed Spanish Minister of Defense. This appointment was criticized because he worked for a company shortly before, the cluster bombs had sold to the Libyan dictator Muammar al - Gaddafi, who used them against the civilian population. When the Spanish government in 2008 signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, he had demanded 40 million euros in compensation payment for the arms industry. He was also chairman of the arms company MBDA, the missile produced.

Morenes is married and has three children.
