Pedro Reginaldo Lira

Pedro Reginaldo Lira ( born September 7, 1915 in Salta, Salta Province, Argentina, † December 11, 2012 ) was an Argentine Roman Catholic bishop.

Life

Pedro Reginaldo Lira studied theology and philosophy at the seminary in Salta, Catamarca and Buenos Aires. On September 21, 1938 he was ordained priest by the Archbishop of Salta, Roberto José Tavella SDB. He has worked in various positions in counseling, 1948 Vicar General in Salta and director of religious education in the Archdiocese of Salta.

1958 Pope Pius XII appointed him. Titular Bishop of Tenedus and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Salta. He received his episcopal consecration Archbishop José Roberto Tavella on September 7, 1958 Co-consecrators were Emilio Antonio di Pasquo, Bishop of San Luis and Manuel Menéndez, Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires. 1961 he was appointed first bishop of San Francisco by Pope John XXIII .. He was a participant of the first two sessions of the Second Vatican Council. In 1965 he resigned for health reasons from the office and was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed Titular Bishop of Castellum in Mauretania; 1967 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Salta. Pedro Reginaldo Lira was for many years professor of philosophy and theology and taught at the seminary in Salta, at the Theological Seminary of the Franciscan and at various institutes. At the Catholic University of Salta, he was rector. In 1995 he became Professor Emeritus.

He was honored in 1999 with the Olimpia de Salta and named Honorary President for life by the Instituto de Salta Sanmartiniano. In 2004 he was honored with an honorary citizen of the state government and the city of Salta.
