Pee Dee

Pee Dee refers to the northeastern region of the U.S. state of South Carolina. The name is derived from the central waterway, the Pee Dee River, which was named of the tribe of the Pee Dee after the original inhabitants of the region, the Native Americans. The landscape of the region is dominated by the Grand beach with its coastal towns and beaches of the characteristic bays in the Carolinas, of marshes, swamps and forested sand hills.

The Pee Dee Region includes the following counties:

  • Chesterfield County
  • Darlington County
  • Dillon County
  • Florence County
  • Georgetown County, Horry County * Lee County
  • Marion County
  • Marlboro County and
  • Williamsburg County.

The regional center is the small town of Florence; the Grand beach includes major cities including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Garden City Beach.
