Pee Wee Moore

( There † April 13, 2009 * as Numa Moore Smith on March 5, 1928 in Raleigh ( North Carolina) ) was an American jazz baritone saxophonist of the Modern Jazz Pee Wee Moore. He played with Dizzy Gillespie.

Moore first worked with Lucky Millinder ( 1950-51 ); Louis Jordan (1951 ), Illinois Jacquet ( 1952). After that he played in the band until 1956 by James Moody, from 1956 to 1957 in Dizzy Gillespie. In 1957 he was involved in the recording of Mary Lou Williams' Zodiac Suite work with her and the Gillespie Orchestra. In the 1970s he moved back to his native town, worked during the day and only played casually. His papers are part of the Jazz collection of the Duke University.
