Pehlivanköy

Pehlivanköy is a Turkish city in Eastern Thrace, near the town Kırklareli. The Turkish name means " Ringer Village". The old name Pavli (Bulgarian: Pavulo ) is derived from the Greek name Agios Pavlos ( Αγιος Παυλος ). The place was by the Byzantine emperor Michael III. founded.

Pehlivanköy has 2,241 inhabitants, the county 4,823 (as of 2008 ).

Under the name Pavulo Pehlivanköy has long been a Christian religious center. After the Russo- Ottoman War 1877-78 settled here Muslim families from the Balkans.
