Pekka Vapaavuori

Pekka Juhani Vapaavuori (6 August 1962 in Turku ) is a Finnish architect.

Pekka Vapaavuori studied until 1993 architecture at the Technical University of Tampere. In 1994 he founded his own architectural office in Turku. He also teaches architecture in Tampere.

The most famous building by Pekka Vapaavuori is the Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn capital of Estonia. Vapaavuori won the tender by 1994. The work was begun because of lack of funds in 2002 and opened the museum in February 2006 ceremony. For his work Pekka Vapaavuori was awarded the annual prize of the Estonian architecture and culture premium of the Estonian state in the same year.
