Peliosis hepatis

With peliosis hepatis, a disease of the liver is called, which is characterized by blood-filled cysts. These cysts arise from the sinking of liver tissue ( parenchymal form) or by ballooning of the central vein of the liver lobule ( phlebektatische form).

A peliosis hepatis comes out in humans and in cattle, cats, dogs and rats. In humans, it is observed upon infection with Bartonella henselae ( the causative agent of cat scratch disease), tuberculosis or treatment with anabolic steroids or androgens.
