Pelle Eklund

Per-Erik "Pelle " Eklund ( born March 22, 1963 in Stockholm ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and coach, who played in his time from 1978 to 1999 among others for the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League. His son Daniel is also a professional hockey player, his daughter Nathalie is an alpine ski racer.

Career

Per-Erik Eklund began his career as a hockey player with Stocksunds IF, for the first team, he was active in the third-tier Division 2 1978-1981. He then moved to AIK Solna, for which he was in the Elitserien, the highest Swedish league, active from 1981 to 1985. With the Center AIK won the Swedish championship title in the 1983/84 season. For this success he contributed with 40 points scorers, including 15 goals, in 41 games. For this reason, he received the Guldpucken as the best Swedish ice hockey player and was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. During his time at AIK, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 in the eighth round when a total 161 players from the Philadelphia Flyers, where until 1994 he had a regular place in the National Hockey League from 1985. In the 1986/87 season the Swede reached with the Flyers in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup finals, where he lost his team the Edmonton Oilers in the best- of-seven series with 3:4 victories.

In March 1994, Eklund was transferred in exchange for an eight- round voting rights for the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 to the Dallas Stars, for in 14 games he scored two goals to end of season and gave four assists. Then the links Sagittarius returned to his native Sweden, in the case Leksand IF in the Elitserien, he stood on the ice from 1994 until his retirement in late 1999 at the age of 36 years. Especially in the 1994/95 season he was able to convince in Leksand and scored in 38 games 50 scorer points, including 13 goals. From 2006 to 2010 he worked as a scout for the Canadiens de Montréal in the NHL. Since then he has been active in itself function for the Edmonton Oilers.

Internationally

For Sweden, Eklund took at junior level at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1981 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1982 and 1983 in part. In the U18 European Championship in 1981, he won the bronze medal with his team.

In the senior level, he took for Sweden at the World Championships in 1985, 1986, 1990, IIHF World Championships 1991, 1995 and 1996 in part. He won three silver medals with the Swedish national team and was with his country -time world champion. He also stood in 1984 -up from their country at the Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo, where he won the bronze medal at the Canada Cup, where he took second place with his team.
