Pellucidar

Pellucidar is a thought up by Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs fictional continent that is located on the inner surface of the hollow sphere of the earth. Burroughs thus takes up the theory of the hollow earth. The seven -volume cycle is one of the most famous works of the author.

In contrast to the outside world, the land-water ratio of the area in Pellucidar is exactly the reverse. The land area is about 123.11 million square miles, whereas 41.37 million square miles are occupied by oceans. The world is illuminated by a small sun, exactly located in the center of the Erdhohlkugel and never changed their stand. So prevails in Pellucidar eternal day. Exception is a small region, which lies in the shadow of a small geostationary moon the sun and therefore is called the land of the terrible shadow. Despite the small size of the sun, this is strong enough to ensure a rich life in Pellucidar. Due to the concave curvature of the inner surface of Pellucidar there is no single horizontal line. Everything you see in the distance seems to be located higher and loses itself in an even greater distance in a haze layer.

Hero of the story is the rich heir David Innes, who sets out with his friend Abner Perry, who designed a mechanical mole on a journey deep into the earth to come in new deposits of anthracite coal as. However, due to a design flaw, they are not able to move with their drill the direction so that they drill 500 miles deep through the Earth's crust. There they suddenly come across a fantastic world full of prehistoric life. Upon their arrival, the two friends encounter a Stone Age people, in which they feel so well that they decide to stay there. At the same time awakened in them the desire to civilize the people of Pellucidar and to bring them the technical achievements of the people of the outside world. To this end, undertakes David Innes again a trip back to the outside world, to return with all sorts of important things.
