Peloponnese (region)

Peloponnese (Greek PELOPONNISOS Πελοπόννησος ) is the name of one of the thirteen administrative regions ( Ez periferia Greek περιφέρεια ) Greece. It consists mainly of historic landscapes Messinia, Arkadia, Lakonia, Argolis and the environment of Corinth in the Peloponnese, as well as a piece of land across the isthmus.

Regional districts and municipalities

The Peloponnese region is divided into five regional districts (singular gr Periferiaki enotita περιφερειακή ενότητα ), which correspond to the areas of the existing by 2010 prefectures. Proportional to their population, they send a certain number of MEPs in the 51 -member Regional Council.

Economy

Expressed in comparison with the EU GDP in purchasing power standards the Peloponnese region reached an index of 77.5 (EU -25: 100 ) (2003 ). The unemployment rate in 2005 was 8.7%.
