Peñablanca

Peñablanca is a town in the Philippine province of Cagayan and is located in the southeast of the province of the Philippine Sea. Peñablanca is also located in the Sierra Madre, which the region is very mountainous. Partial rises here the terrain to over 1,500 meters.

Fossil human remains from the Callao Cave dated to at least 67,000 years before present and give an indication of the long history of settlement Peñablancas and the island of Luzon. During the Spanish colonial period Peñablanca was a district of Tuguegarao and was independent until 1896. The population lives mainly from agriculture. Are grown preferred rice, maize, mung beans and peanuts. In the south, the municipality borders the province of Isabela. In the northwest of the municipality lies the nature reserve Peñablanca Protected Landscape & Seascape, which covers an area of ​​1187.81 km ². The archaeological sites in the Cagayan Valley and the rock paintings in the caves that lie within the municipality, stand together with the petroglyphs in the Philippines since 2006 on the suggestion list of the Philippines for inclusion in the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
