Peñafrancia Basilica

The Basilica of Our Lady of Penafrancia ( Nuestra Señora de Peña de Francia ) is a minor basilica in the Archdiocese of Caceres of the Roman Catholic Church in the capital of the province of Camarines Sur Naga City, Philippines. She stands at the Balatas Road, near the Bicol River.

The church is dedicated to the portrait Marie La Virgen de la Peña de Francia. The image of the Virgin Mary is the patron saint of the city of Naga City and the entire Bicol Region.

History

The basilica was built from 1976 to 1981 with the intention to create a sanctuary for the Marie portrait. The idea for this came from Archbishop Pedro Paulo Santos Songco. The church follows the Roman basilica scheme in modern forms. On May 22, 1985, the church was elevated to minor basilica.
