Peñausende

Peñausende is a municipality in the province of Zamora, which belongs to the autonomous community of Castile and Leon in Spain. The place is located in the comarca Sayago. Peñausende includes the part places Figueruela de Sayago, Peñausende and Tamame. The community is located about 250 km north- west of Madrid.

In Peñausende the remains of a castle of Santiago have been preserved, which has played an important role during the Reconquista. The castle rock is a popular vantage point.

The St. Martin of Tours parish church is the most important building in the village today. It was built between the 11th and 13th centuries, while it shows the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was rebuilt.
