Penduline tit

Beutelmeise ( Remiz pendulinus )

The bags tits ( Remizidae ) are a family of small songbirds that are closely related to the true tits. Most species build nests hanging from trees, usually near water.

Properties

Bag tits are small, like most birds from 7.5 to 11 cm in length. Compared to the tits they have finer, smaller beaks. They have short, rounded wings and short tails geschartete.

Distribution and habitat

The bags tits are widespread in Eurasia, Africa and North America. While the genus Remiz of Portugal and northern Morocco is spread to Japan, the largest genus, Anthoscopus, sub-Saharan happens to South Africa. The monotypic genus Auriparus lives in Mexico and the southwestern United States.

The Eurasian species are mostly migratory birds, the African and American species are birds years.

Most species prefer open country with scattered trees and shrubs, some species live in deserts, swamps or forests.

Behavior

Most of the food is made from insects, sometimes fruit, seeds and nectar are eaten. The hunting behavior is very reminiscent of the real tits.

Many species build elaborate hanging nests from materials such as spider silk, animal hair and soft parts of plants such as willow and poplar seeds. The nests of the genus Anthoscopus are more complicated than those of the Eurasian genus Remiz, they have an incorrect input to the real, which leads to an empty chamber. The real entrance is closed by a flap.
