Penobscot and Kennebec Railroad

The Penobscot and Kennebec Railroad is a former railroad in Maine (United States). It was established on 7 April 1845, ran a 88.8 km long railway line from Waterville to Bangor. As in the Androscoggin and Kennebec Waterville Railroad joined, it was decided to use the same track gauge of 1676 mm. Construction began in 1852 and the line was completed by August 1855.

On November 30, 1856, the Penobscot & Kennebec was leased by the Androscoggin and Kennebec Railroad for 20 years. After the construction of additional routes, it was decided the two companies merged on October 28, 1862 to the Maine Central Railroad. The track was in 1871 umgespurt to standard gauge and is now used by Pan Am Railways.
