Penology

The Pönologie (Latin poena, " punishment, repentance, punishment " ) is the science of the penalties and sanctions. The core of the Pönologie is the exploration of prison sentences and custodial measures. Pönologie in the strict sense can therefore be equated with the prison research.

The central research problem of Pönologie is the fundamental dilemma of the penal system: on the one hand, society is to be protected from dangerous offenders (safety aspect ), on the other hand, the detainees are to be rehabilitated. However, the second goal requires a maintenance or practice social behaviors in the context of Prisonisierung can be unlearned in prison right now.
