The Penser Joch ( Passo di Pennes Italian ) is a mountain pass in South Tyrol in northern Italy. It connects s.l.m. to 2,211 m the Sarn Valley with the Wipptal at Sterzing. The pass forms a straight line according to the direct connection Innsbruck -Bozen.

History

The road to the Penser yoke consisted of Bolzano direction for quite some time before, for strategic reasons, the remaining connection to Sterzing was created 1936-1938.

Directions

From the North leave the motorway from Innsbruck at the junction Sterzing and changes to the Penser Joch road (SS- 508). About four turns, you win on the road consistently attached climb in elevation. The road width is between four and eight meters with gradients up to 13%. At the highest point of the path is the Gasthof Rosenhof Alps. Continuing south descending one crosses the entire Sarn Valley and near Bolzano. The last part before Bolzano is characterized by many tunnels that lead through a narrow gorge.

The track is, although they have gradually been extended in recent years and is narrow in places and cluttered. The winter closure of the passport from about 1600 meters above sea level lasts, depending on snow conditions, from mid- December to late March.
