The Penser White Horn ( also Sarner White horn or Sarntaler White Horn, Italian Corno Bianco ) is a 2705 m slm high mountain in the Alps in South Tyrol Sarntaler.

Location

The prominent peak is located in the northern part of the Sarntaler Alps. To the north lies the valley of the Sennerbergalm, a tributary of the Jaufentals. According to the northeast ridge to the 2586 m high Gartlspitze and on to the 2,211 m high Penser Joch ( Passo di Senes ) runs. To the southeast of the mountain drops steeply to 2590 m high Gerölljoch ( Giogo di Frane ). In the southwest extends the Oberbergtal, a tributary of the Sarntal, west pulling a ridge to Ötsch peak ( 2590 m).

Geology

The Penser White Horn is mostly composed of mica- rich gneisses and amphibolites slate. On the south side, however, Dolomite and limestone are found from the Triassic.

Alpinism

The first ascent of the White Horn succeeded A. Siegl and Carl Wechner in 1822.

The normal route to the summit is a marked trail from Gerölljoch by the southern flank of the mountain. This increase includes brief passages tightrope insured and requires easy climbs in difficulty I ( UIAA ). The starting points are the Penser yoke Oberbergtal or the westernmost Passeiertal. The increases over the Oberbergtal or east are also possible as demanding ski tour in winter.

A further marked increase via the west ridge. The starting point for this route is the Jaufental. The White Horn is located on the so-called horseshoe tour, an approximately seven-day round by the Sarntaler Alps.
