Pension (lodging)

Bed and Breakfast ( B & B ) are accommodation establishments, accommodations with ( compared to hotels ) provide limited services.

Definition / classification

The used in official statistics classification of economic activities WZ 2008 defined pensions as

"... The usually short -term ( days or weeks ) temporary accommodation. It includes the provision of accessible to everyone furnished accommodation in guest rooms. The units classified here offer daily bed-making and cleaning of rooms and provide food and drinks from only to hotel guests. "

Characteristics

They are partly run by private landlords room, especially in tourist areas. A pension is a house with several rooms with basic facilities generally. They therefore differ from hotel, the professional companies are having the same purpose, but often with a higher standard. Pensions and hotels offer catering and accommodation services. The reception is typically not occupied. As pensions have generally not have their own kitchen, there are usually only breakfast. They are usually cheaper than hotels and much easier equipped. Services of all kinds are reduced to the housekeeping.

Often long-term (rental from about a week ) is booked. The prices for a night move in Central Europe between 20 and 50 euros for a room.

Occurrence

In 2002, in Germany there are 5,506 B & Bs with an average of 25.4 beds per farm. In December 2011, Germany had 5,705 commercial guesthouses with more than 8 beds.

Classification

The German Hotel and Restaurant Association classified in cooperation with the German Tourism Association ( DTV) pensions as part of the "German classification for guest houses, motels and inns " (" G- Class ").
