Pentalobe screw

As Pentalob or Pentalobular is called for a safety screw type drive, which was the first time in mid-2009 used in products from Apple in securing the battery in the notebook model MacBook Pro. Smaller versions are 4/4S and 5 used in the MacBook Air and iPhone models. The Pentalob drive has a flower- shaped, five -sided carrier profile.

Naming

Whether this system in the German correct as Pentalobular or - as in some articles - is called Pentalob, is still unclear. According to iFixit Apple calls this type now as Pentalobe security screws.

Criticism

As there is no obvious technical advantages over similar drives, such as a Torx suspected of critics that the only purpose is to complicate the owner of the device opening.
