Penumbra (Band)

Penumbra was a French death metal band.

History

1996 Jarlaath ( singer and oboist ) and Dorian met (guitarist ) at a concert and found that they represented the same basic views on music. Both agreed that there were too many bands with a similar sound and the classic elements used too few. Shortly after the first rehearsals with synthesizers and a soprano both left their previous groupings to form a band called Imperatoria.

This broke up in November 1996. Jarlaath then founded the band Penumbra, who immediately Dorian and four other musicians, including Mr. Rikk (drums), joined. At her first appearance at the St. Denis University Festival 1997, the new formation has been well received. Shortly thereafter, she received an offer to play with the French metal band Misanthrope. In the same year appeared the first demo album Falling Into My Soul.

For the recording of the album Emanate two sopranos and a baritone were committed, the penumbra, however, soon left again. With a rotating cast concerts were given in France and Switzerland. On the Wave -Gotik-Treffen 1999 Penumbra played as only French band.

After an extensive line-up change in 2001 The Last Bewitchment was taken. Following publication by Season of Mist Penumbra played with Within Temptation and After Forever in France and the Netherlands.

Again in 2003, some members left after the recording of the band Seclusion. After replacement is found, the band played throughout Europe with concerts Apocalyptica, Moonspell, Epica, and again in 2005 at the Wave -Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig.

2009 Penumbra disbanded.

Style

The group combined high female vocals with death metal- typical hardness and classical influences.
