Penzance Bay

Penzance Bay is a well known bay at Tennyson Inlet in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. The Tennyson Inlet is an arm of Pelorus Sound. The bay is located immediately north of the Tuna Bay, both. Using the same road that can be achieved Archers Road It is located about 75 minutes by car from the city of Nelson.

The area of Penzance Bay is sparsely populated. There are few permanent residents and otherwise mostly cabins ( " Brook " ) and holiday homes.

The bay has a shingle beach, which is unusual for the rocky straits of the area. It is therefore known as a safe swimming beach. Since it has a boat ramp and a large harbor, the Panzance Bay is popular with boaters and sport fishermen.

There are trails that connect multiple adjacent bays with each other, the Duncan Bay and the Elaine Bay. Penzance Bay is surrounded by forest, of which large parts are still in original condition. This forest is home to numerous species of southern beech ( Nothofagus ), conifers and epiphytes. In the early summer flowering large amounts of bottom-dwelling orchid Pterostylis banksii on the trails. The Maori name for this orchid is tutukiwi, which translates Kiwischnabel.
