Penzance

Penzance [ pɛnzæns ] ( cornish Penn Sans [KK ], Pensans [ UCR ] ) is a city in the former District Penwith Cornwall, in England, located at the Mounts Bay, a bay of the Atlantic Ocean at the entrance of the Channel, in the well of St. Michael 's Mount can be found. The city has 20,255 inhabitants (as of 2001) and was until 2009 the administrative seat of the former Penwith District.

Etymology

The name comes from the Cornish language Penzance: " Pen Sans" means something like "holy headland ", which refers to a church founded in the early Christian period.

Climate

The pleasant climate with Atlantic 's Gulf Stream allows a lush, partly subtropical vegetation, the beach promenade and numerous gardens and front gardens are characterized by high cordylines.   • Penlee House Museum and Art Gallery with the most important representatives of the Newlyn School, a colony of artists from the area.
  • Jubilee Bathing Pool: A 1935 south of the inner harbor into the sea swimming pool built in the style of Lido. One of the best preserved specimens of its kind in the UK.
  • Beach promenade, which was constructed in 1844 by the Jubilee Bathing Pool promenade runs to the neighboring port of Newlyn, who is politically connected to Penzance.
  • Newlyn Harbour: At the end of the promenade situated fishing port with impressively large ocean-going fishing fleet.
  • Morrab Gardens: A city park with old stock of subtropical trees and wide lawns.
  • Market House: A 1837 built building with a domed roof at the intersection of two main roads Market Jew Street and Chapel Street
  • Egyptian House: built in 1836 by John Lavin in Egyptian style and decorated house in Chapel Street.

The place has become known in artistic editing mainly due to the first listed in 1879 comic opera The Pirates of Penzance, or The Slave of Duty by Arthur Sullivan and WS Gilbert.
