Pep Band

As Pep Band could be called a non- marching marching band. In the U.S., very common, Pep Bands play for example in basketball, hockey or baseball games in the stands. What is special is that not the usual concert instruments are used, but also the special marching instruments. Since it is not marches, frequently and keyboards, electric guitar or electric bass can be used.

Instruments

Pep bands typically use the same instruments as marching bands:

  • Woodwind instruments, such as piccolo, flute, clarinet, saxophone
  • Brass instruments, such as trumpet, flugelhorn, cornet, Mellophone, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Tuba
  • Percussion instruments such as snare drum, cymbal, Marching Toms or just quad, called tonal bass drum, tenor drums, xylophone, xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, percussion.

Baritones have a forward funnel in Marching and Pep Bands. They are referred to then as a marching baritone. Marching Euphonium have a larger scale ( comparison Tenor Horn / Baritone Horn ). Tubas are often replaced by sousaphone. There is also a so-called Marching Tuba, which is worn on the shoulder and is directed forward. The Mellophone replaces the usual music concert in the French horn (French horn) and is also directed to the front. There is also a marching trombone. Because of the funnels of the trumpet is but directed innately forward, they are rather less in use.

Music

There are numerous arrangements for Marching and Pep Bands. The arrangements are approximately two minutes kept rather short and simple arranged.
