Peptidyltransferase

The peptidyl is the primary enzymatic function of the ribosome, which formed between amino acids during protein using tRNA, peptide bonds. Ribosomes are macromolecular complexes consisting of proteins and ribonucleic acids. Since the catalytic function is exercised by the ribosomal ribonucleic acids and not by the ribosomal proteins, one speaks of a ribozyme.

The EC number is set to EC 2.3.2.12. With PDB 2w1j exists at least one parsed structure ( Streptococcus pneumoniae). There are a number of inhibitors.

  • In bacteria, the 50S Ribosomuntereinheit contains the peptidyl transferase.
  • In eukaryotic cells, the 60S Ribosomunterheit contains the peptidyl transferase.
