Pere Bosch-Gimpera

Pere Bosch i Gimpera (Spanish Pedro Bosch y Gimpera, born March 29, 1891 in Barcelona, † October 9, 1974 in Mexico City ) was an archaeologist and prehistorians. He was one of the most famous Catalan scientists of his time.

He began to study law, but later switched to philosophy. In Berlin Ulrich von Wilamowitz - Moellendorff led him to the study of prehistory. His first publications dealt with the Minoan culture (1912 ) and the origin of Greek Trägodie (1913). He also translate Homer. In 1915 he became director of the excavations of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and teachers of Estudis Catalans Universitaris. In 1916 he became professor of ancient history at the University of Barcelona. In 1919 he published the book prehistoria Catalana. Since that time, he was an advocate of the use of the Catalan language in scientific publications.

From 1919 until his death he corresponded with his student, colleague and friend Lluís Garcia i Pericot. Another important disciple was Josep Serra de Calassanç i Ràfols. He was a founder of the Associació Catalana d' Antropologia, Etnografia i prehistoria ( Catalan Society of Anthropology, Ethnography and Prehistory ). In 1929 he organized an international symposium in Barcelona for archeology.
