Peregrine of Opole

Peregrinus of Ratibor (also Peregrinus of Opole, first name also Pilgrim; Latin Peregrinus Rathiboriensis, also Peregrinus Opoliensis; Polish Peregryn z Opola; * 1260, † after 1333) was a Dominican and Silesian Provincial of the Polish Province of the Order and homilists. Known are his collections of sermons.

Life

It is not known when and where Peregrinus was born. For the first time he has is for the year 1303 as prior of the Dominican convent of St. Jacob in Ratibor, where he was confessor of the Duke Primislaus and later spiritual advisor of his daughter Euphemia. 1305 he held the priory on the monastery of St. Adalbert Breslauer. From 1305 to 1312 and from 1322 to 1327 he was Provincial of the Polish Province of the Order, which included the addition of Silesia and Bohemia and Moravia. In 1307 he was probably involved in the founding of the Opole Dominican monastery. For the year 1318 it is occupied as Inquisitor of the dioceses Wroclaw and Krakow.

His nickname of Ratibor, Wroclaw and Opole of derived from the clothed in these places positions.

  • Sermones de tempore et de Sanctis

Was probably made before 1300 in the Dominican monastery in Ratibor. It includes 65 sermons " which tempore " and 63 sermons " de Sanctis ." They gained rapidly in importance and have been known and used as full and partial copies of the regional boundaries. Translations of the Latin copies were also made in Polish and Czech. Get yourself have about 350 manuscripts, which are included in most academic libraries. Early works include prints in Ulm ( 1474 and 1479 ), Strasbourg ( 1484 and 1493 ), in Breslau ( 1501) and Cologne ( 1505).
