Peregrine Osborne, 2nd Duke of Leeds

Peregrine Osborne, 2nd Duke of Leeds (* 1659, † June 25, 1729 ) was a British aristocrat (peer ) from the late 17th century and early 18th century.

Peregrine Osborne was the second son of Thomas Osborne, 1st Duke of Leeds ( 1631-1712 ) and Lady Bridget Bertie ( 1629-1704 ), a daughter of Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey ( 1608-1666 ). After his older brother Edward Osborne, Viscount Latimer, (1655-1689) had died, Peregrine Osborne received, so far, Lord Osborne, the courtesy title Earl of Danby (1689 ) and Marquess of Carmarthen ( 1694 ) as heir to the ducal title, which his father had been created in 1694.

Since 1677 Osborne was for the constituency of Berwick -upon -Tweed, Member of the House of Commons in 1679 for the constituency of Corfe Castle. In 1682 he married Bridget Hyde, the only daughter of Sir Thomas Hyde, 2nd Baronet, of Aldbury ( 1594-1665 ). Their common children were Mary (1688-1722), William Henry (1690-1711) and Peregrine Hyde Osborne (1691-1731), who later 3rd Duke of Leeds.

1689 Osborne was again a member of parliament, this time for the electoral district of York. In 1690 it was by a special Royal Decree the title of Baron Osborne, a subordinate his father's title, transferred, so that he became a member of the House of Lords. In the following years, he made ​​a career in the Royal Navy, where he rose to Vice - Admiral.
