Pergamus

Pergamos (Greek Πέργαμος ) In Greek mythology, the youngest son of Neoptolemus, son of Achilles, and Andromache. His brothers were Molossos and Pielos.

Pergamos moved according to legend, accompanied by his mother with an army to Asia Minor and struck there in a battle Arios, the ruler of Teuthrania. He then said to have given the city its name: Pergamon. His mother was erected a Heroon after her death in this city.

Servius mentioned in a scholium to Virgil's Eclogues one handed down from Euphorion fragment of history to Pergamos, after this, had rushed to the son of Eurypylos, Grynos to help and had supported him in battle against hostile neighbors. Out of gratitude Grynos have named a city of his territory by Pergamos.

All these gambling in Asia Minor stories seem to have been taken late in the Greek mythology. Before the 3rd century BC, the figure is not to grip. Nevertheless, Pergamos was in the city of his name, in Pergamum, as a hero Eponymos worshiped, coin images, even if only to Roman times, wore his portrait and in the city there was a Heroon of Pergamos. Opposite the meaning of Telephus for the city's founding story, he remained in the background. Nevertheless, Mithridates VI could. be celebrated as a new founding hero, as the second Pergamus in Pergamum.
