Pérignat-lès-Sarliève

Pérignat -lès- Sarliève is a commune with 2671 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region. It is located about 5 km south of Clermont -Ferrand.

The place was formerly known under the name Perinhac, Peyrignac, Perinhat, Perrinat and Péringnat Petit. The latter name is different on the other bank of the Allier it from the same Pérignat -ès -Allier. The suffix " -lès- Sarliève " refers to an under Ludwig_XIII. drained lake ( see below).

Population

The population has been increasing since the 60s again and resistant to currently stands at 2671 (as of 1 January 2011). The former winegrower's village is transformed into increasingly a place of residence for commuters to the nearby city of Clermont- Ferrand, 80 % of all workers Pérignats work. As the factors favor connections with the urban bus system T2C and three motorway connections to the A75 Clermont- Ferrand are - Montpellier to mention. Geography

The medieval village is located on the eastern slope of the Gergovie plateau. Around the village, especially east towards the motorway and to the south extend the new residential area.

History

Historical importance was Pérignat during the unsuccessful siege of Gergovia during the Gallic War by Julius Caesar. The scene of the battle is disputed among historians. Against the Plateau de Gergovie speaks of not mentioned by Caesar, drained until the Middle Ages, 400 -acre Lake Sarliève.

Among the medieval manor families the " Pérignat " are mentioned.

In 1790, supporters of the Revolution declared the reserved for a noble family pew in the context of the abolition of the privileges of a public good. However, some residents defied the determination and led members of the family back to their ancestral seat.

In 1873 became Pérignat its final municipal autonomy of Aubière.

Economy

The former main industry, the wine is still operated today on 40 acres ( Grape: Gamay ). The municipal area are still some to see " tonnes de vigne ", more or less complex built shelters and tool sheds of the wine growers.

Attractions

Besides the beautiful location at the foot of the Plateau de Gergovie Pérignat offers a remarkable place with the town hall in the old castle and church from the 12th century and connected park. Many cellars are evidence of the importance of vineyards in the past. East of the highway lies in the so-called Plaine de Sarliève in the municipality of Cournon which a volcano modeled Zénith d' Auvergne exhibition center. In a former Cistercian monastery dating from the 16th century now a hotel and restaurant is housed.
