Perino del Vaga

Perino del Vaga, actually Pietro Buonaccorsi, (* 1501 in Florence, † 1547 in Rome) was an Italian painter and plasterer of the Renaissance.

He received by his teacher, the Florentine painter Vaga, the name of Vaga. In Rome he was Raphael's pupils and led by Giovanni da Udine with its drawings in the other rooms of the Vatican loggias and stucco decoration and paintings. Through these works come in reputation, he received numerous orders, mostly for interior decoration of palaces and churches. After the sack of Rome (1527 ) he went to Genoa, where he decorated the palace Doria among others with stucco, gilding, murals, etc.. From Genoa Vaga went over Pisa (here from him the fresco Child Angel in the cathedral ) to Rome, where he began his work as a plasterer and decorator again and also templates for wallpaper, canopies, embroidery etc. recorded. Among the works of this later time, the ceiling of the Sala Regia of the Vatican is the most outstanding.

At the age of 46 years, he died in Rome of tuberculosis.
